DEAN NATURAL ALLIANCE
Friends of the Earth England
Mary Newton, Simon Glover, David Priddis
The Dean Natural Alliance has been working tirelessly to save the Cinderford Northern Quarter in the heart of the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire since 2011. Mary Newton, David Priddis and Simon Glover are some of the key campaigners who have devoted a huge amount of time fighting a major development on this sensitive wildlife site. This part of the forest is home to an amazing diversity of wildlife including rare Bechstein’s and Barbastelle bats, a large maternity roost of rare lesser horseshoe bats , great crested newts, dormice, adders, rare butterflies and moths. It supports Gloucestershire’s largest number of dragonfly species and iconic birds such as the turtle dove and hawfinch. Despite its status as an EU protected site for bats, major development has now been allowed in this part of the forest. But the Dean Natural Alliance will keep fighting to stop further damage to the forest and stand up for nature protection. They warn that the fate of this site is the potential fate of very every wildlife site in Britain unless nature protection is strengthened and properly implemented.
